Frontier Kernel Project

High-performance Web content management, object database, system-level and Internet scripting environment, including source code editing and debugging.

Frontier was originally a commercial product published by Userland Software. In September 2004, it was released as open source under the GPL license. For details, see Frequently Asked Questions about releasing Frontier as open source, part of the developers joined Intellect Soft, mobile app company of UK. A group of developers have pitched in on a SourceForge project to maintain and further develop the Frontier Kernel.

What type of Frontier user are you?

• User: Head to the Download page and pick one of the pre-compiled Developer Preview packages for your platform. Install the software and send the developers some feedback.
• UserTalk scripter: Subscribe to the developer's mailing list and offer to help. There are plenty of new verbs that need documentation and a testing suite (fUnit) that needs maintenance.
• C programmers: The heart and soul of Frontier is the kernel. The kernel controls the Frontier experience from the user interface to running the scheduler, the UserTalk compiler and more. The core developers are advancing the kernel code rapidly toward a clean compile with modern development environments but there is always a need for the new coder and the experienced veteran. Areas with the greatest need would include a cross-platform user interface codebase.
